[02] arrive ed holdsworth began directing, designing and animating digital short films, promos and stings in 2000. his work is characterised by its use of sound and narrative combined with simple graphic imagery to create strong subliminal stories. he has designed club visuals in leeds and london, collaborating with the light surgeons at the ica and most recently for new band fc kahuna, for a live event in belgium. he was one of the winners of the warp / creative review competition in 2002 with half of what, a music video for prefuse73. he has worked with shynola on a footlocker commercial for the usa and was part of the creative team directed by mario cavalli on a music video for lemon jelly. he created a viro short for filmfour and a mesh scheme short called king pylon for channel 4. ed is represented by passion pictures and his most recent work includes music videos for radiohead and four tet, as well as more personal projects. he was named a creative future by creative review in 2003.
[03] parasite unit9 have developed an enviable reputation for excellence under ben hibon's creative leadership. this is underpinned by a string of awards and festival representations. recent highlights include a d+ad nomination for clinic's promo, the second line and liaa nominations for reebok's supertrack 2001. their short full moon safari picked up best flash animation at the 2002 offf in barcelona. unit9 focus on producing digital media for marketing, pr and the creative industry, with an emphasis on making sticky digital content built around animation, gaming and general digital weirdness. they continue to expand their creative outlets with clients and work in europe and japan.
[04] prelude drawing + manual was set up in 1997 by hishikawa seiichi and nagaoka kenmai, and specialises in motion graphics and websites. based in tokyo, its operations also comprise the d+department recycled furniture shop and cafй, which is expanding to other cities. work includes brand communication for sony aibo, tokyo tv, ntt and pilot; websites for honda asimo humanoid robot, sony explorascience, benetton; and moving image and music videos for sonic temple, viewsic, honda and sony vaio. hishikawa and nagaoka also create experimental work and curated the motion graphics exhibition in tokyo in 2000.
[05] disco rout: legowelt lobo was founded in 1994 by partners mateus de paula santos and nando cohen. located in sгo paulo, brazil, its main focus is broadcast design and cel animation. recent work includes show opens for mtv brazil and disney channel, the on-air look of cinemax prime channel and a movie for diesel's friendship gallery, among others. they have also created a number of music video works for the band golden shower, as well as the standout disco rout for legowelt and have been showing in onedotzero since 2002.
[06] dad's dead, slinky pictures chris shepherd was born in liverpool in 1966. in 1985 he studied foundation art at liverpool polytechnic, after which he became an editor at a production company called ngp ltd. from 1989 to 1992 he studied animation at west surrey college of art and design. he directed and produced the multi award-winning film for channel four called the broken jaw. since then he has directed adverts, title sequences and the award-winning stareout sketches on big train. he is the co-founder of new animation company, slinky pictures, with producer maria manton. recent direction credits include a ten part series for channel four called people's britain and he is also the producer of the channel four/bfi animator in residence scheme. dad's dead is his latest short for the channel 4/arts council of great britain. chris shepherd / dad's dead [uk] a truly multi award-winning film: nine at the last count! a compelling story of friendship, mischief and denial, told through animated flashbacks. visually stunning, this short film fuses live action and animation seamlessly to take us on an emotionally dark, thought provoking journey through a working class childhood in merseyside. voiceover by ian hart. it has amassed many awards in 2003 that include: winner of the quantel animation award at rushes soho shorts festival; winner of the metropolis prize at l'isola del cinema festival in rome; winner of the grand prize at cabbagetown annual film + video festival in toronto; winner of the encouragement award at fantoche int'l animation festival in switzerland; winner of special award at split int'l festival of new film in croatia; winner of best independent animation award at fan int'l animation festival in norwich; winner of best animation award at kino int'l film festival in manchester and nominated for best short film in the british independent film awards. dad's dead was shown at onedotzero7. plus director's making of dad's dead.
[07] steam punk go round p.i.c.s is a collective agency based in tokyo headed up by ex-mtv in-house creative director terai hironori and his team. they are a stable of multi-talented directors working across moving image from live action to animation and the convergence of the two. they work for a range of clients producing commercials, idents, music videos and personal work. nakao hiroyuki has worked on many on-air show packages and promotions for mtv japan including the recent trainsurfer series and foodies tv on-air promotions.
[08] london details up and coming graphic designer, focussing on moving image, ident work and short films. based in hamburg, germany, timo seeks to explore the boundaries in experimental and commercial work in broadcast design and commercials and is keen to develop his career in art direction. he hopes to move into the arena of music video production in the near future. london details was a student project for his m.a. and his first short film. further client work has included: universal studio networks, tv movie magazine, joop!, bravo tv and lost in space. recent projects include design and direction of the on-air identity for two ubc network channels for english+pockett, ebay tv logo ending and german tv channel, zdf show packages.
[09] we choose time xmas is an art collective based in south africa who take on everything from design for print, to music promo direction, animation, and sound production. they say that they are "continually evolving as an amorphous collaborative unit, creating media independent art and entertainment." their previous work for quarter, also on the xmas record label, was the music promo for monkey's wedding, which featured in onedotzero6.
[10] ultra love ninja mk12 is an artist collective and design lab based in kansas city, mo, usa. founded by art school fugitives ben radatz, jed carter, matt fraction and tim fisher. since august 2002, mk12 have worked in association with the ebeling group. this partnership has seen mk12's top position within the north american market evolve to a competitive presence on a global scale, for projects ranging from commercials, network launches and re-branding to show packages, music videos, and titles for film and television. mk12 employs a floating roster of artists with expertise in production, editorial, effects, finishing, design, animation, and sound design. recent clients include gmc, adidas, comedy central, mtv usa, and sub pop records, for whom they created the music video no, not now for the band hot hot heat. they say they are "characterized by a constant re-examination and development of motion, depth and juxtaposition" and their" unique style best lends itself to explanation visually and viscerally by experiencing the work itself."
[11] the wolfman tim hope's experiments with computer graphics and editing packages led to his discovery of the possibilities of animation. he started out by making short animated personalised birthday cards for his family and friends. his short film the wolfman won the edinburgh film festival mclaren animation prize in 2000, and was eventually converted into a playstation2 commercial. his "flat 3d" animated music video work for coldplay cemented his reputation as a director, and resulted in a nomination in the best director category at the mtv music awards. other work includes music videos and commercials for rem, jimmy eat world, one giant leap, hewlett packard computers and robinson's juices. his background as a stand-up comedian is evident from the humour in his short films and the tv pilot series, the pod.
[12] river founded in 1995 by visual director kojima junji, teevee graphics produce title animations, cg, commercials and music videos. their work moves between computer-generated imagery, analogue-orientated hand drawn animation, and live action. clients include audio active, space shower tv, ntt i-mode, vaio net and sony style. they have released a dvd of their exhibition of personal motion graphic films, video victim, and continue to develop personal projects and short films such as the japanese tradition series.
[13] is a woman: lambchop shynola was formed in 1999 by gideon baws, jason groves, chris harding and richard kenworthy who met at kent institute of art and design. they quickly created an impressive body of music video work for acts including blur, queens of the stone age, unkle, quannum, grooverider, morgan, radiohead, stephen malkmus and lambchop. commercial clients include nike, orange mobile phones, sony playstation and national westminster bank. they have recently branched out from pure animation projects to include live action elements in their work. shynola have garnered many awards for their work including the cad award in 2003 for best director.
[14] come for brazil boutique broadcast design operation psyop creates animation and brand communications for a range of clients, including volkswagen, starbucks, at+t, globalstar, merrell footwear and vh1. founded in september 2000 by eben mears, marie hyon, marco spier, kylie matulick and todd mueller, they are based in the east village, new york city. experimental projects have included pieces for the onedottv television series and for the brasil inspired book.

[17] me and madonna: black strobe ne-o are jake knight and ryoko tanaka. by blending live action, animation and graphics, ne-o creates work for commercials, idents, music videos with a strong focus on dark humour and spatial-temporal tricks. working as a direction duo jake and ryoko directed a commercial for powerade for wieden + kennedy amsterdam, a short film for panasonic japan and the award-winning short film, commissioned/produced with onedotzero, salaryman6, winner of best short film in rushes, soho short film festival 2002 and silver in the london film festival tcm short prize 2002. from 1997 as a single director jake knight began directing live action music videos that included jonny l, dj hype, outcast, mulu before being represented by a number of agencies including nexus and, bullet with videos for bands such as the herbaliser, a plus, mike koglin and merz. further music videos followed for moloko, satoshi tomiie, k2 family, and shawn lee. other commercial work includes directing 16 mood films for bbc japan weekend and commercials for levis [asia pacific] featuring the hot japanese actor asano tadanobu and nissan.
[18] verbal: amon tobin alexander rutterford graduated from graphic design at croydon school of art, uk in 1991. he first broke into the film industry designing graphics on sets for movies such as judge dredd, then moved on to become a cg artist at production outfit lost in space. he now works independently as a director, creating music videos and short films. work includes music videos for radiohead, autechre and amon tobin, and the experimental films 3space sound engine and monocodes.
[19] justice runners a pure one man powerhouse tomioka has produced many standout self-initiated animations and is a permanent favourite at festivals around the world when he shows his own sharp take on japanese sensibilities. his highly coloured and highly comical works have included gas tank mania and coin laundry all internationally premiered at onedotzero. as well as the animation he also composes the music and generally takes on most tasks on each film. in addition he has used his talent in the commercial area for clients such as honda and tower records.
