The award-winning British saxophonist Alan Barnes is joined for this 2006 'studio' recording by the acclaimed tenor saxophonist Harry Allen. With a sound reminiscent of Stan Getz, Al Cohn and Zoot Sims Harry Allen has over 20 recordings to his name, has a huge following in Japan and consistently sells out when he tours the UK. For this swinging session that was recorded in the music room at the Bulls Head, Barnes (but without an audience) the two saxophonists were backed by an all-star British rhythm section. John Pearce on piano is often heard as part of the Scott Hamilton Quartet, bassist Dave Chamberlain plays with Stacey Kent and drummer Bobby Worth is a stalwart of the UK jazz scene. They perform a varied programme of classic jazz standards and originals including two each from Barnes and Allen. ~ Editorial Reviews
A very tasty encounter it proves to be...modern mainstream music of genuine quality, insistently creative and accomplished. ~ Jazzwise, (Peter Vacher), September 2007
It will put a smile on your face and a swing in your step. ~ Metro, (Robert Shore), July 6, 2007
They make it sound easy but some of the playing is hair-raising, from both the imaginative and technical points of view. ~ The Observer, (Dave Gelly), August 12, 2007
Personnel: Alan Barnes - (alto & baritone saxophone), Harry Allen - (tenor saxophone), John Pearce - (piano), Dave Chamberlain - (bass), Bobby Worth - (drums).
