Doug Hammond is an African American drummer and singer who started his career at
the beginning of the sixties, playing with Earl Hooker, Little Willie John
(Fever composer) or Sam and Dave. Mooving to Detroit in 1965, then to New York
in the late 60s, he played with Chet Baker, Sonny Rollins, Betty Carter, Nina
Simone, Arthur Blythe, James Blood Ul ...
The Detroit legend, veteran of the Tribe label, plays thumb piano and drums,
with pianist Kirk Lightsey — and sings with heartfelt, spiritual intensity. A
strange, lovely record. With a Four Tet mix included
